The FDA Social Agreements Handbook is designed to ensure that operations carried out by companies under a Forest Resources Licence and that are likely to affect communities, do not significantly harm the interests of these communities. Accordingly, the holder has a duty to negotiate one or more social agreements for the benefit of all affected communities with respect to the area to be logged under the Forest Resources Licence. In addition, the FDA provides Community Forestry Development Committees with guidelines regarding their development and implementation. A number of field procedures for developing social agreements and a template are also attached.
