Letter to BUDG –ECON Joint Committee - Recovery and Resilience Facility funding for gas projects

The letter was sent to BUDG–ECON Joint Committee members ahead of a vote on Monday 9th regarding the use of Recovery and Resilience Facility funding for gas projects. ClientEarth advocates for the RRF to be in strict compliance with the EU’s climate laws. We argue that allowing the RRF to fund fossil fuel projects, including gas, would be inconsistent with the emission reductions and clean energy investment required by parties to the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal. It would put Member States and the RRF in clear breach of EU legal obligations.
