EU laws on chemicals in food contact materials: a system in dire need of reform

On 24 of September 2018, in cooperation with CHEMTrust, HEAL and BEUC, Alice Bernard presented ClientEarth’s concerns on the lack of transparency in the decision making processes regarding food contact materials, at the workshop organised by the European Commission on the evaluation of food contact material law. She took as an example, the existence of an industry-only expert group advising the Commission on food contact materials. This group excludes organisation working in the public interest and there not much information, publicly available, on how this group operates, their agendas, and content of the discussions. This casts doubts on the independence of the European Commission when implementing this law.
