ClientEarth's comments on the Energy Efficiency Directive proposal

ClientEarth's comments on the European Commission’s proposal for a directive on energy efficiency (recast EED). The recast EED strengthens the existing framework to achieve the new EU climate ambition. ClientEarth welcomes the inclusion of a new legal basis for the energy efficiency 1st principle. Setting a higher EU energy efficiency target and making it binding is also a good step towards achieving the EU energy and climate targets, although it must be accompanied by ambitious and binding national targets. The recast EED also includes interesting provisions to empower and protect end users as well as support a fairer transition, which is of great importance in the context of soaring energy prices.

However, the provisions of the recast EED still need to be improved, which ClientEarth has outlined in its comments.
