2202 ClientEarth’s comments on CARACAL doc CA/03/2022 restriction-authorisation

The EU is in the process of reforming one of its main chemical regulation, REACH. A critical part of the reform is the improvement of the systems that allow the EU institutions and States to restrict the production and uses of harmful chemicals.

ClientEarth will contribute to each step of the process – this document feeds an early stage of the process, the design of the different options that the Commission’s consultant will have to evaluate. This impact assessment will then determine what makes it to the final proposal.

Our demands aim at creating a system where public authorities get the information they need to regulate, adopt easily broad and precautionary restrictions and have a system that allows them to quickly and fairly sort through companies request for derogations so that no unacceptable use of hazardous chemicals are left on the market.
