10 years in: time for ECHA to disseminate strategic information to empower third parties

Since its creation 10 years ago, ECHA has become the holder of strategic information. As a result, public authorities are far less ignorant of chemicals, their risks and how, where and why they are used. But the REACH regulation is not working perfectly. ECHA estimates that there are about 3,000 chemicals on the market for which there is insufficient knowledge. It is now time to go the last mile and transfer this information from public authorities to third parties.  Some strategic information does indeed have the capacity, if widely shared, to become the lever third parties need to convince companies to accelerate the substitution of harmful chemicals with safer solutions.

This report identifies what this strategic information is, and identifies which has been correctly disseminated by ECHA, and which has not. It also makes precise recommendations on how ECHA can achieve compliance with its obligation to disseminate key information.
