Simon Birkett founded the cross-party Campaign for Clean Air in London which aims to achieve urgently and sustainably at least World Health Organisation recommended standards of air quality throughout London.
After graduating in Civil Engineering from the University of Melbourne, he obtained a Masters degree from the London Business School. He recently left a career in banking to pursue his environmental interests. The last few years of his banking career were spent establishing and managing multi-national charitable projects in the areas of financial and environmental education. For ten years, he has also been actively involved in local campaigning. Simon believes passionately that if air quality laws are complied with in full in London in time for the 2012 Olympics, many cities (including London) will learn how to tackle wider air pollution, public health and sustainability issues through a mixture of behavioural change, technology and political will.
