ClientEarth welcomes the revision of Directive 2008/50/EC and Directive 2004/107/EC (the Ambient Air Quality Directives). In December 2021, we participated in the public consultation on this revision, providing our input on how the current legislative framework could be improved.
In this position paper, submitted as part of the process, we expand on our vision for a cleaner, healthier Europe. As we set out, the current EU air quality standards make a good start, but if Europe’s inhabitants are to be adequately protected, more ambition is needed from our law and policy makers.
