Open letter: Why the European Commission must include the law proposal for a Sustainable Food System in its 2023 work programme

Food and agriculture were mostly absent from the State of the Union speech that Ursula von der Leyen gave on 14 September 2022. In view of the challenges ahead, civil society organisations call upon the EU Commission President to prioritise the access to healthy and sustainable food and to come forward with its legislative proposal in 2023, as planned in the Farm to Fork Strategy. This law must set a clear vision to transition to an environmentally-positive, fair and healthy EU food system.
