The Water Framework Directive (WFD) is the key framework law for the protection of the EU’s waters.
The WFD sets a number of deadlines for Member States to comply with the obligations it places on them. The most common and well-known is the ‘2027 deadline’, which refers to the WFD’s overarching objective to achieve good status of water bodies throughout the EU.
This legal paper aims to shed light on the WFD’s most important deadlines and what obligations they entail for Member States.
