The EU wants to change its legal system so that endocrine disruptors, a group of very hazardous chemicals until now mostly left unregulated, can be identified and regulated. But if companies do not test their substances to discover endocrine disrupting properties, nothing is possible. This is why the EU is updating the information requirements under REACH – the rules that tell companies what information they need to collect or create on their substances.
The process is now in the hands of a consultant, considering the impact of different options for those information requirements. Our comments aim at ensuring that the impact of endocrine disruptors on society is fully included, and that the future rules deliver the information basis needed for action.
