We have seen huge commitments come out of previous COPs, not least the historic Paris Agreement in 2015. But these promises need to be kept and action has to follow. When progress doesn’t happen, trust is weakened in the process, and in world leaders.
Climate change is not on the horizon – it's happening now to people all over the world. COP28 is a crucial opportunity for positive, coordinated climate action on a global scale.
At ClientEarth, we use the power of the law as a force for change. We call for the right rules – the right national climate laws, the right policies, the right international law initiatives – to phase out fossil fuels, support the most vulnerable communities, and secure real-world progress.
We have three concrete asks from delegates at COP28. Our policy document lays out exactly what we want to see and how we can use the power of the law to respond to the climate crises.
