This letter to the Commission summarises ClientEarth’s recommendations for the Commission’s communication on fishing opportunities for 2019 and its report under Article 50 of the CFP basic regulation on reporting on progress towards achieving MSY and on the situation of fish stocks.
This letter was sent to the Commission (to both the Heads of Units C1 and D3) in April 2018 before its communication on fishing opportunities for 2019 was published, and highlights the importance of clear, reliable and comprehensive monitoring and reporting on the CFP’s performance. It contains specific recommendations how shortcomings of previous communications and Article 50 reports should be addressed.
