Thomas Burman

Focus

Thomas is based in Brussels and works with the Energy Systems Europe team. In this capacity, he helps steer the organization's work to promote a swift and just transition of energy systems in Europe, to better protect the biosphere, climate, and people.

Experience

Thomas’s experience in the field of energy law includes work in the United States, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Europe. After serving as a law clerk in the US federal courts, he practiced primarily regulatory law in the energy, environment, mining and transportation division of Stinson LLP, a large midwestern US law firm. Before joining ClientEarth, Thomas worked for a renewable energy developer in Kenya focused on expanding electricity access in rural areas of the subcontinent.

Education

Thomas holds a Master of Laws in Energy and Climate Law from the University of Groningen and a Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota, both received with honours.
