Focus

Gizem joined the Brussels office in March 2021. As a lawyer in our emissions reductions team, Gizem’s work centres on the climate change legal framework as well as coal power plants and coal infrastructure in Turkey. She collaborates with civil society in pushing for energy transition, defending the right to clean air and in building environmental legal capacity.

Experience

Prior to joining in ClientEarth, she worked at private legal practice in Ankara, counselling and representing labour unions, environmental NGOs and activists for six years.

Education

She is trained in human rights law at Lund University (Sweden), is qualified as an attorney in Turkey and holds a BA in law from the University of Ankara.

I feel privileged to be a part of this team of brilliant lawyers from diverse backgrounds and in a position of using my legal skills fully to support the ongoing efforts for ecological justice and transition towards a clean, democratic energy system. ClientEarth’s creative, driven and context-sensitive approach is certain to contribute to this transition in Turkey.
