Open Letter: lawmaking must protect people, planet, and democracy - not just shareholders.

Since 2024, the Antwerp Declaration has become a shadow roadmap for the EU - prioritising industry profits over people, climate, and social protections. Deregulation proposals are being fast-tracked without impact assessments or meaningful public consultation, while billions in public subsidies go to polluting industries.

We, a coalition of civil society organisations, reject this corporate-led agenda. Strong rules aren’t a burden - they are the foundation of Europe’s resilience. Lawmaking must protect people, planet, and democracy - not just shareholders.

We call for:

• Rules that protect democracy, people, and planet
• Evidence-based lawmaking guided by science and civil society
• No blank cheques for polluting industries

The EU must prioritise citizens over corporate profits.
