For a healthy food chain ClientEarth’s contribution to the public consultation on the evaluation of “food contact materials”

ClientEarth contributed to the public consultation on the evaluation of the Food Contact Materials (FCMs) legal framework. This contribution emphasises that at least two elements make the current legislation on FCMs weak and ineffective, i.e. the lack of harmonisation for FCMs, and the lack of adapted provisions to prevent harm from chemicals classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic for reproduction (CMRs) and endocrine disruptors (EDCs). ClientEarth takes this opportunity to call on the Commission to amend the current legislation in order to ensure increased protection of public health.
