Sebastian Smart is a Senior Research Fellow at Anglia Ruskin University and a socio-legal scholar specialising in business and human rights, environmental justice, and corporate accountability. His research examines strategic litigation, access to justice, and the governance of emerging technologies, with a particular focus on how legal systems can address environmental harm and human rights abuses linked to multinational corporations.
He has worked extensively across Latin America and Europe, collaborating with civil society organisations, international institutions, and academic partners on issues of environmental litigation, extractive industries, and digital governance. Sebastian is part of the advisory network of the Freedom Online Coalition and has contributed to UN initiatives on business and human rights.
