The Yerevan Pathway – outcome of COP17 – must now be turned into action at home.

31 October 2026

ClientEarth has reacted to the final outcome of the COP17 negotiations – the Yerevan Pathway.

ClientEarth Global Communications and Policy Director, Amy Fairbairn said:

“The Yerevan Pathway has the potential to put the world back on a more credible path towards the 2030 biodiversity goals, but only if it is translated into national laws and concrete action by lawmakers and governments at home.

Strong laws, accountability and enforcement will be essential to deliver on these commitments, while securing the rights, participation and leadership of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, whose stewardship of nature is indispensable to achieving global conservation goals.

With four years remaining to meet the 2030 deadlines for nature targets, procrastination is no longer an option. Nature underpins the food we eat, the water we drink, our economies and our ability to cope with climate change – yet it continues to decline at an alarming rate. Addressing biodiversity loss is not a choice or a political preference; it is a matter of survival.”
