The EU Fisheries Control System is currently undergoing a revision process: the proposal from the European Commission has been published in May 2018 and both the Council and the European Parliament are currently working on this file.
Speaking to the European Parliament on November 27th, ClientEarth lawyer Elisabeth Druel underlined that this revision process should aim at ensuring that fisheries in the EU are fully documented and that the enforcement system of fisheries rules is effective, deterrent and transparent, with harmonised rules across the EU to deal with infringements to the rules of the Common Fisheries Policy.
These priorities can also be found in the joint NGO position paper on the revision of the EU Fisheries Control System.
