The post-2020 European Maritime and Fisheries Fund: how to ensure that EU financial aid serves the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy?

In June 2018, the European Commission released its proposal for the post-2020 European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). This briefing identifies the changes and improvements that need to take place during the upcoming decision-making process to make sure that from 2021 onwards, EU financial aid in fisheries will serve the objectives of the CFP.

ClientEarth has identified several key guiding principles around which the future fund should be developed. Our recommendations address eligible measures, ineligible measures and recommendations for requirements or activities that should be included in the post-2020 EMFF Regulation. Moreover, our briefing includes reflections on management rules that would lead to a more efficient, effective and targeted distribution of funding.
