The legal framework governing forest conversion in Liberia

Forest conversion involves many different sectors (forestry, mining, agriculture) and a full understanding of the legal framework demands analysis of legal texts from all of those sectors, which must be read together to understand all requirements. Therefore, this briefing provides an overview of the legal framework for forest conversion in Liberia. It also places forest conversion and conversion timber (the timber resulting from the forest clearance) in the context of Liberia’s Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) with the EU.
