The Lands Commission Act 2008

The Act establishes the Lands Commission, which has the objectives to: “(a) promote the judicious use of land by the society and ensure that land use is in accordance with sustainable management principles and the maintenance of a sound eco-system; and (b) ensure that land development is effected in conformity with the nation’s development goals.”

The Commission has a variety of functions, including to manage public lands and any other lands vested in the President, ensure that socio-economic activities are consistent with sound land use through sustainable land use planning in the long term national interest and promote community participation and public awareness at all levels in sustainable land management and development practices to ensure the highest and best use of land.
