Joint NGO position on Western Waters MAP trilogue agreement

In this letter, we ask fisheries MEPs to reject the political agreement that was reached on 12 December 2018 on the European Commission’s proposal for a multi-annual plan for fish stocks in the Western Waters during the plenary vote in Strasbourg on 11 February 2019.

The text resulting from the inter-institutional negotiations undermines key requirements of the CFP:

• It fails to ensure sustainable management of all Western Waters stocks;
• It allows for fishing above sustainable levels;

It fails to deliver long-term, ecosystem-based management for the Western Waters.
