Feedback on the Proposal for a Legislative Act to Reduce Methane Emissions in the Oil, Gas and Coal Sectors

Joint NGO response to the inception impact assessment consultation on the proposal for a legislative act to reduce ethane emissions in the oil, gas and coal sectors. The response covers the importance of stringent measurement, reporting and verification of methane emissions for all fossil energy sources, as well as methane leakage detection and repair regulation. It argues that the EU should introduce bans on routine venting and flaring as well as methane emissions limits, and that regulatory responses to the problem of methane emissions should be taken with a view to reducing emissions from fossil energy imports in addition to emissions within the EU’s boundaries.
