Call for Evidence, European Oceans Pact

The European Oceans Pact (EOP) is the unique opportunity to put Ocean at the heart of decision making, enabling coherence across all ocean-related policies and therefore strengthen the foundation for the EUs competitiveness and its sustainable blue economy. This could be achieved by having the EOP outline how to protect the Ocean, decarbonise EU fisheries and ensure the long-term health of Europe's fish stocks and marine environments.

We provided feedback to the Commission's call for evidence, focusing on three priorities:

(1) strengthen the implementation and enforcement of existing legislation and policies;

(2) ensure policy coherence and include clear, timebound, and tangible targets;

(3) secure a socially fair transition especially for small scale and low impact fisheries, notably by establishing an EU Ocean Fund and phasing out harmful fossil fuel subsidies.
