On 8 December 2021, ClientEarth wrote to PwC, warning that the “big four” auditor’s failure to demonstrate whether and how it takes account of material climate risks when auditing the financial statements of climate-exposed companies puts it at risk of breaching both applicable audit standards and its core legal duties. ClientEarth’s letter calls on PwC to ensure it is prepared to address material climate risk when conducting future audits, in line with existing audit standards, and to explain its approach to climate risk in the audit reports for all audits of climate-exposed companies.
