Alan has been with ClientEarth since 2009. He leads the organisation’s Clean Air team, using advocacy and litigation to enforce national compliance with EU air quality standards in the UK and other European countries.
Alan has been a central figure in ClientEarth’s seven-year legal battle against the UK Government over breaches of air quality laws and is a regular media commentator on air pollution issues. He was based in Brussels from (2013-2015), working on the revision of a key EU air pollution law.
Before joining ClientEarth, Alan was a City-based pensions lawyer with international firm CMS Cameron McKenna. Alan is an alumnus of the University of Manchester (LLB) and holds a masters degree in Environmental Law and Policy from London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. Alan has featured in the Lawyer magazine’s “Hot 100” and the Evening Standard’s top 1,000 most influential Londoners.
