Ida Westphal joined the Germany office in Berlin in October 2018 as energy transition lawyer.
Ida is a German lawyer and specialized in environmental law. She gained professional experience as a researcher in the field of environmental law governance at the German Institute for Applied Ecology (Öko-Institut e.V.) and was a legal trainee at the environmental law firm Gaßner, Groth, Siederer & Coll. Ida also holds a combined LLB (licence en droit) in German and French law. Her professional interest lies in the field of environmental law, agriculture and human rights.
Prior to joining ClientEarth, she developed a project on open source licenses for seeds as a Mercator Fellow on International Affairs, a programme for young professionals. As part of her fellowship, she worked at the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) and Bioversity International.
At ClientEarth, Ida’s work focuses on promoting the coal phase-out in Germany from a legal perspective.
