Howard Covington has served on the ClientEarth Board since 2014 and became Chair in December 2018.

He brings a wealth of experience in the worlds of business and philanthropy. He combines this with a passion for science and a deep understanding of climate change, a topic he has written on for the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, Nature GeoScience and Nature.

Howard was formerly an investment banker and a founding shareholder and chief executive of New Star Asset Management. He has been the Chair of the Management Committee of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences and a Trustee of the Science Museum. He is the founding Chair of The Alan Turing Institute.

Howard’s experience, knowledge and passion leave him ideally placed to lead the Board of Trustees as the organisation continues to dramatically scale-up its efforts using the power of law to protect people and the planet.

ClientEarth is a remarkable organisation and I am honoured to chair its board. Now, more than ever, the world needs a group like ClientEarth. Their energy, courage and innovation provides hope for all of us. I know from my time as a trustee that ClientEarth is fortunate to have such a strong team powering its work.
