J. Awia Vankan is a Counsellor-At-Law and a member of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA). He is President of Nimba County Bar Association, a subset of the LNBA, and also a member of the Journal Committee of the LNBA. He specializes in negotiation and drafting of legal instruments. Before joining the law firm Heritage Partners and Associates and supporting ClientEarth’s work in Liberia, he worked as a Finance Officer and Liaison Officer at the Agriculture Relief Services, served as Legal Secretary for Gbaintor & Associates Law Firm, and was a Secretary at the National Elections Commission. Awia holds an AA in Accounting & Management from Don Bosco Polytechnic Liberia, a BBA in Accounting & Management from Stella Maris Polytechnic Liberia 2006 and an LLB (Hons) from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia.
