The
debate on the post-2010 EU biodiversity strategy presents threats as
well as opportunities for a stronger legal framework for biodiversity
and ecosystem protection in Europe. ClientEarth's biodiversity team
will use its legal knowledge to strengthen the work of its partner
organisations in ensuring that legislation effectively protects
biodiversity both in Europe and across the globe. We offer legal, policy and strategy arguments to ensure that our partners can engage productively in the political debate on biodiversity in Europe, for instance on the Birds Directive and the Habitats Directive. We will also provide advice on the Common Fisheries Policy, the Common Agricultural Policy and the reform of the EU Budget, as each of these proceeses will be key in promoting new economic tools for the valuation of biodiversity and securing better funding for the necessary protection of nature and ecosystem services.
