ClientEarth's biodiversity work falls into two broad and interconnected programmes. Our marine protection and fisheries programme was established in 2008, while our work on broader biodiversity issues in Europe and beyond developed in 2009.
Marine protection and fisheries
The world’s oceans are in crisis. Existing legal frameworks have completely failed to protect the marine environment. Without adequate marine protection, commercial fisheries could collapse and coastal water quality and ecosystem stability will seriously deteriorate, with potentially serious knock-on effects for terrestrial ecosystems.
We deploy long-term dedicated legal expertise to strive for more robust marine protection, and take legal action where appropriate.
