ClientEarth's environmental work depends upon creating transparency and forging clear lines of access to justice. We are working to achieve increased clarity and openness in the EU's institutions and at national government level throughout Europe.
Success will mean that those fighting to protect our environment, whether individuals or organisations like ClientEarth, will be able to take on governments and big business on a much fairer basis.
Through our work on access to the courts we intend to enable Europe's citizens to challenge poor environmental decisions in courts of law - a fundamental right recognised in an international declaration known as the Aarhus Convention. The convention has been widely ratified, including by the EU, but the right to environmental justice continues to be frustrated in many states and a variety of ways.
