Go strong in the New Year New Year's message, 2012 Watch our New Year’s message by clicking on the image above. Dear Friends, The first week of January and ClientEarth’s teams in London, Brussels and Warsaw are underway for another successful year as we work creatively to mend the relationship between human societies and the earth. ClientEarth’s James Thornton welcomes 2012 and notes that there is much each of us can do to improve the world we all live in together. With best wishes and we look forward to working with you in the New Year, The ClientEarth team Can’t access the video? You can read the transcript from James’ message below. "As we enter the new year it’s easy to feel some trepidation. 2011 was a year of strong events, from extreme weather around the world to the Japanese earthquake and nuclear incident, from the Arab spring to the European and American debt crises . While there are of course forces beyond our control each of us can do much to improve the world we all live in together. At ClientEarth we work for deep systemic societal change. We believe that human beings can live more harmoniously with the living systems of Earth and with each other. So we’ve been fighting against new coal fired power plants that would increase global warming – and winning. We’ve been fighting to protect the fish in the sea from waste and over-exploitation and making real progress. We’ve been fighting for clean air, so children’s lungs can grow to their full potential, and for the rainforests. We’ve been working to make European government more transparent so it lives up to its high ideals – and in all these things we’ve made real progress . My resolution as we enter the new year is to keep fighting for society that is saner, more just and more respectful of all living things. I like to recall a line from the great anthropologist Margaret Meade: “Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Thank you, and go strong in the new year."
