| Consultation response on the postponement of phase 3 of London's low emission zone |
|
4 July 2010 | Read the response The mayor of London has launched a public consultation on his proposal to postpone phase 3 of the low emission zone (LEZ), scheduled to start in October 2010, until January 2012. Linked here is ClientEarth's response to the delay of this key air quality policy. We highlight a number of flaws in both the consultation procedure that was followed and the mayor’s reasons for postponing phase 3. In particular, the consultation came too late to have any real impact on the mayor’s decision and did not contain sufficient information on the impacts that postponement would have on air quality and health. ClientEarth call on the mayor to proceed with phase 3 of the LEZ in October as planned, and compensate those hardest hit with the cost of complying with a retrofit or vehicle scrappage scheme. |
