Environmental justice
|
ClientEarth's environmental work depends upon creating transparency and forging clear lines of access to justice. A number of our programmes are concerned specifically with achieving increased clarity in the practises of the EU and its insitutions, member state governments and in the corporate world. Through our work on access to the courts we intend to enable Europe's citizens to challenge poor environmental decisions in courts of law - a fundamental right recognised in the Aarhus Convention but frustrated in many states and a variety of ways. The legal team working on transparency and the European Investment Bank aim to improve the bank's decision-making processes, enabling citizens to take part in consultations on how it invests its money to mitigate its environmental impact. And our corporate transparency team are developing policy in company law that could force companies based in the UK to report on their social and environmental impacts.
