UN tells EU to open courts to citizens on environmental matters

The UN Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee has published its final recommendations in response to a case brought against the European Union by ClientEarth. The committee has callled on the EU to overhaul its access to justice rules to allow decisions made by the European institutions to be challenged in the courts by European citizens. Until now, not one European citizen has been granted standing in the European Courts on environmental grounds.
